The Island Games
Before I go any further, I just want to explain what the Island Games are to anyone that doesn’t know. The Natwest Island Games are a major international multi sporting event which are hosted every two years by one of the islands around the world who are a member of the IIGA (International Island Games Association)
The Island Games are a bit smaller than the Commonwealth Games, but they are by no means any less important.
2011 saw the Isle of Wight’s turn to host the games, with around 4000 athletes from 24 islands competing in 15 sports and 190 events. The Isle of Wight won 17 Gold, 15 Silver and 21 Bronze medals in many different events.
In 2013, Bermuda was the location for the games and it saw the Isle of Wight’s smallest team for a number of years. But even with a shooting team of just 3 people, the Isle of Wight still came away with a Silver Medal.
In 2015 Jersey was the host of the Natwest Island Games, and once again, the Isle of Wight entered a team of shooters to cover the many different disciplines and came away with 20 medals. 5 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze.
In 2017 Gotland was the host of the Natwest Island Games, this time the Isle of Wight entered a slightly smaller team of shooters to cover the many different disciplines and came away with 14 medals. 5 gold, 8 silver, and 1 bronze.
Sponsorship Request
This time we have another excellent team selected to represent the Isle of Wight in the sport of shooting at the 2019 Natwest Island Games. Travel costs alone are set to be around £900 per athlete, but as our Island doesn’t have any official funding for sending athletes to these events, it is once again down to the individuals, and local team fund raising to come up with the money.
I am therefore trying to raise sufficient funds to help cover the cost of some specific items of kit, ammunition, and travel costs.
I am looking for both businesses and individuals to sponsor me, so if you would like to consider any form of sponsorship, then I would gratefully appreciate any help you can give, no matter how large or small it is!
I cannot offer much in return for the sponsorship, apart from a mention in the local papers maybe, and my extreme gratitude! Due to some fairly strict advertising rules in my sport for ‘non equipment manufacturers’, size and location for advertising logo’s, are extremely limited. However, I will advertise what I can.
Who Am I?
My name is Dom. I’m a computer software engineer, but I have a great passion for rifle shooting. I’m now competing at a fairly high standard and shoot both Nationally and Internationally. I have competed in the last 3 Island Games events, and with a fair amount of success too. I have won a total of 7 medals at the games so far, including medals for 3 Position Rifle, 50m Prone Rifle, 100 yard Rifle, and 300m Rifle. So far, I have only managed a number of Silver and Bronze medals, and have yet to win that elusive Gold Medal, but I am determined this time to get it.
